Tumbling Tulsa | learning the basics
Hello and welcome to Tulsa tumbled talk with justice tumbling company, the one and only Tulsa tumbling show where we are Tulsa tumbling experts. Answer the questions that we get from parents and athletes on a daily basis. We are your hosts, coulton cruise and rusty breath fleur, and we are the owners of justice tumbling company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. All right, so today we’re going to do something a little bit different. We’ve always talked to tumblers, people who have had a lot of experience with tumbling or people who are doing it daily and today we’re doing something different. Today we’re talking just to those people who have maybe never tumbled before in their entire life or maybe you’ve only done it a little bit when they were younger. Now there is always an opportune time to get your child into the gym to learn the basics of tumbling technique, but maybe maybe there is an inspiring teenager out there who’s seen youtube videos, Tumbling Tulsa who’s watched the park core stuff going on, you know, and they’ve always wanted to try to tumble, but maybe they think they’re just too old to get started.
We’re going to be going over all of that today, but first let’s talk about the little ones, the tiny tumblers. Um, now there is an opportune time to start tumbling and that is at as young of age as possible. Believe it or not. Tumbling Tulsa, we start working with kids as young as three years old, and we’ve talked about this in previous podcasts before, but it’s not necessarily about learning the skills whenever you’re young. I’m like backhand springs, but it’s more about having fun and learning hand and eye coordination and learning what your body can do whenever you’re young. And so if you’re a parent out there, try to get your child in as soon as possible. Here in justice tumbling company, we have a, a deal going on where it’s your first month, right? Your first month ever. It’s only $1 for the entire month. Nobody beats that deal.
And the reason why we have that deal is so that you can bring your little one in and within four weeks, which is, you know, the entire month, one practice a week, they get to see what tumbling is about while having fun. And enjoying themselves, and it’s a happy memory of their first time tumbling. If it’s not enjoyable, they’re not going to want to come back and do it. So within that month, for only a dollar, you get to see what we’re about. Your child gets to see what we’re about. You’re getting, your child gets a, gets to have fun and they’ll tell you if they want to come back. Of course, whenever they’re working those, um, more advanced skills, it does become a lot more serious, Tumbling Tulsa, having fun. It’s still an important aspect of the sport and we always want to continue that all the way through.
But it is important to remember, uh, the safety aspect of those advanced tumbling skills. All right, now we’re moving on to the kids who are maybe a little bit older or teenagers, you know, so often they are afraid to get into a class because they’re embarrassed of the tumbling skills that they don’t have or they just don’t want to be in class with younger kids. First. Number one rule. You are never ever too old to start tumbling. But with that being said, there are right ways and there are wrong ways to go about it. Too often we have older kids or teenagers come in who had been practicing to tumble on trampolines, which if you have ever heard our podcasts before, you know exactly how we feel about that. Tumbling Tulsa let’s say you’ve never heard our podcasts. Let’s say you’ve never even stepped into our building there.
It’s happened so often where kids, they build up enough courage to throw a back flip or something on the trampoline and that inspires them to want to learn to do it on the ground. Which I want to say good job. Overcoming that fear because it is pretty impressive, especially if you’re teaching yourself to do a backflip on the trampoline. It can get scary. But what we don’t want is for you to try to take that same technique that you’ve taught yourself on the trampoline and try to bring it to the ground because that’s when you have a risk of injury. Tumbling Tulsa, we ask that you kind of forget everything that you know about that backflip that you’ve thrown on the trampoline. So that we can teach you how to do a proper back tuck on the ground. Now, like I said, we’ve touched base on training on trampolines before, um, and we definitely do not encourage it.
So whether you’re young or you’re old, just getting into tumbling, it is best that your first tumbling experience be with a trained coach. Too often we have athletes who have never had any real tumbling experience. Show up with a ton of bad habits already just from trying things on the trampoline. Tumbling Tulsa then we, the coach have to spend a lot of time and you, the athlete. I have to spend a lot of time breaking those bad habits. That’s not fun because it, you don’t see a lot of fast progress like you were kind of expecting. It’s much more slower working drills over and over and over again just to get your body into the proper positions which the trampoline doesn’t teach you. So I have one more point about the trampoline and then I promise I promise I will back away from it. I will give it some space.
Um, I want you to think of jumping and flipping on the trampoline as the equivalent to lifting weights underwater. Pretty much anybody would be able to easily lift 200 pounds underwater. But if you put those same weights out of the water, pretty much no one would be able to easily lift them. It’s nowhere near the same. Um, and so whenever you’re doing flips on the and then you try to bring it down to the floor or the ground, it makes it very, very difficult to try to throw that. If you’ve ever jumped on the trampoline and you. And then you get off and then you try to jump on the ground. It’s like Tumbling Tulsa your body does not move the same way. It’s, it’s odd, but it’s the same effect for flips. All right, now we’re moving onto the differences between girl beginners and boy beginners because they are completely different.
Boys and girls are different anyway, but when you throw tumbling into the mix, it’s even more night and day difference for you. So with girls, we have to spend much more time overcoming the fear aspect of tumbling in most cases, not all, but we do have to spend more time making the female athlete feel a little bit more comfortable about going upside down and learning that as scary as it may be, jumping backwards into almost like a dive is, is a vital part of tumbling, doing back handsprings or you know, jumping up and doing back Tux. It’s all something that has to be done. And then with boys on the other hand, the fear is just usually not as big of a deal for boys as it is for girls. Tumbling Tulsa I will tell you that getting male athletes to maintain proper technique is much more difficult than teaching girls to use technique.
So these boys, they always feel like they have to muscle everything over. There’s no technique involved, there’s no set, there’s no proper jump. It’s just, let’s throw our head back, let’s throw our arms back, let’s get as much momentum built up as possible before we throw this flip. And nine times out of 10, you’re just putting yourself at risk whenever you do that. Um, we, we don’t want to risk injury whatsoever. We want to learn with technique and, and, Tumbling Tulsa, that’s going to push us so that we can learn new tumbling skills even faster. So all in all, whenever it comes down to it, we love teaching new tumblers, young and old boys and girls tumbling should be fun for everyone. We love being able to give athletes their first memory of tumbling, that way we know that they’re getting taught properly and we’re not having to change anything later on down the road.
And because tumbling should be fun for everyone, we adjust this trembling company. We guarantee a stress free and judgment free zone for you.
